A tiny, always-busy diner serving outrageously good chicken katsu, perfect rice, endless cabbage, and dangerously good tartar sauce.

Our Other Post-Training Ritual Spot

Similar to Gyukaku, this is one of those places Sebastian and I somehow stumbled into and then IMMEDIATELY locked into our routine.

Yes please!!
Yes please!!

Big race on the weekend, or long run done, or intervals smashed - tat’s usually when we end up at Torikatsu Tartar Kiniro.

It’s small, it’s popular, and there’s often a bit of a wait. But every single time, it’s worth it.

A Tiny, Busy Diner That Knows Exactly What It’s Doing

Kiniro specialises in fried chicken katsu dinner sets, and they do not mess around.

I’m not sure but they could be open for lunch as well. We’ve only ever gone for dinner, usually slightly feral from training and very hungry lol.

You order via a vending machine at the front, which can feel intimidating, but the staff are legends. Young, enthusiastic boys who are more than happy to help, and they’ve got an English menu too!

Once you’re seated, everything moves quickly. The place fills up fast, but nothing ever feels rushed.

Fried to Absolute Perfection

The chicken katsu is cooked perfectly. Crispy, light, juicy, no greasiness at all.

But there are a few standout moments that deserve special mention.

Afeast even for the eyes!
Afeast even for the eyes!

First: the tartar sauce.

Bro, listen to me. Its excellent. Rich, balanced, and dangerously easy to pour all over everything. Chicken, sides, probably the table if you let yourself.

Second: the fried oysters. Really good. Deep, rich flavour, beautifully cooked.

But the real hero of the entire menu?

The extra-large prawn.

Super crispy. Super light. Incredibly juicy.

Honestly one of the best fried prawns I’ve ever had. Sebastian too, as you will see below lol.

Rice, Cabbage, and Ordering Regrets

You get free refills of rice and cabbage, which sounds incredible in theory.

In practice, the portions are already massive!

The cabbage is light, crisp, and fresh. The rice is glossy, perfectly cooked, and you can actually taste each grain. Really high-quality stuff.

Sebastian and I have been three times now, and every single time we make the same mistake. We don’t order the “mountain of cabbage and tartar sauce with the three-meat or three-chicken-thigh set.”

We get distracted. We order other things. We tell ourselves next time.

Next time, that’s the one.

Cola, Chaos, and Why We Keep Coming Back

They also have Iyoshi Cola, which pairs unbelievably well with the tori katsu.

The place gets busy. Sometimes there’s a line. But the vibe is good. Friendly staff, happy customers, everyone clearly having a great time eating extremely good food.

We’ve gone back again and again after hard training weekends, and every time it hits exactly the same.

I’m already thinking about the next visit.

Honestly, my mouth is watering just writing this.

Final Thoughts: If You Love Katsu, Go Immediately

If you’re into chicken katsu, perfectly fried prawns, delicous tartar sauce, big portions, free refills, and post-training reward meals. Then Torikatsu Tartar Kiniro is for you.
