Our Mission
Why I Started Welcome to Japan
I moved to Japan to follow my passion for bringing people together with food and culture.
The goal of this business, and our tours, is simple. I want to give you an authentic experience of Japan, my way.
I want to explore local neighbourhoods together, tasting traditional dishes, and enjoying popular street food from small, family-run vendors.
I want to give you a real understanding of Japanese culture and history - the meaning behind traditions and for you to learn about the events, rituals, and everyday life that shape modern Japan.
I want you to expereince Japan's great outdoors. The Japan that most people don’t get to see because they’re too caught up travelling through in the big cities.
As cliché as it sounds, I want to contribute to your experience in Japan and, together, create amazing and unique memories that will stay with you forever.
How Our Tours Bring Japan to Life
Welcome to Japan kicks off with walking tours through the Tokyo I know and love.
From my personal favourites to those iconic and significant spots that I think capture the magnificence of the country.
From there, we’ll expand into food (and drinking ;D) tours, exploring both well-known, trending places and neighbourhood gems.
To me, food is more than just something to eat (obviously). I believe it can be the gateway into a culture. When you try local dishes and hear the stories behind them, you connect with the people, the history, and the traditions of a place in a way you just can’t get from the outside.
After the walking tours, and then expanding to food tours, the vision goes bigger. Much bigger.
I want to take you beyond the city, into the mountains and the beautiful Japanese countryside. We’ll hike trails in the Japanese Alps, cycle the long open roads, swim in rivers and lakes. Along the way, we’ll stay in ryokans, eat delicious kaiseki meals, and soak up the warmth of Japanese hospitality together.
The Bigger Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, my long-term goal is to work more closely with the families and communities in rural Japan.
I will build relationships that support local economies and protect the culture and heritage that make Japan so unique.
I want this business to shine a light on the Japan most travellers never see, and help small towns and family-run businesses survive and grow. It’s about doing something sustainable, practical, and genuine.
I want your experience to stay with you, and also give back to the people and places that make Japan, Japan.
At the end of the day, Welcome to Japan is about connection – with people, with culture, and with a country that’s part of who I am. It’s about giving you the chance to see the real Japan, and help support the traditions, communities, and culture that keep Japan’s identity alive.
